HAYFISHER RELY ON BROADCAST PIX SLATE ...
...TO COPE WITH THEIR BUSY WORK SCHEDULE.
Hayfisher have been kept busy in the first half of 2010 with prestigious live event coverage throughout the UK. From keeping spectators informed via the big screens at the Moto GP event at Silverstone to BBC Election Day inserts at Leeds Kirkgate market.
Other events include the British Rallycross Championship, Dunlop Great and British live on Motors TV across Europe and also the Great Yorkshire Show, Cholmondeley Pageant of Power and the big screen at the London marathon finish area.
Reliability of equipment is of paramount importance especially with so little turnaround time between events and with clients expecting seamless output to thousands of visitors and viewers. Hayfisher looked for this reliability and quality when choosing the equipment for their OB unit which is based on a Mercedes Vario LWB.
Uniquely, the vehicle is essentially a wireless OB unit incorporating 7 wireless HD video channels, using a Gigawave MRC diversity system, In addition there are 3 triax positions. 12 channels HD/SD SDI and 4 VT positions. Production is based around a Broadcast Pix Slate 2100 with 12 SDI and 4 composite inputs and the multiview is on two 42'' JVC plasma screens. The matrix is an Evertz 32 x 32 sdi and 16 x 16 pal. A Yamaha 01V96 digital mixer allows for comprehensive audio mixing. Also a separate graphics position for Titlemotion Pro utilizing the CG watch folders on the broadcast pix. Gigawave HD D-Cam Clip-On transmitters are used with Panasonic HPX2100 (P2) cameras, plus minicamera units allow up to 4 remotely selectable cameras on one wireless channel.
The Hayfisher team have truly put the Broadcast Pix Slate system through its paces over the last 2 years and have found it to be intuitive, reliable and offers the flexibility needed for varying projects. Tom Horsington commented that: "The watch folder (that streamlines file imports from editing systems), is a Godsend" and remarked that the Slate system was "idiot-proof."
Footage can also be filmed using the Panasonic P2 camera's, edited on Avid, then exported as Quicktime files via the watch folder into the clipstore. For the three day Great Yorkshire Show, which attracts over 120,000 visitors each year, Hayfisher provided action from the main show ring, to a large screen, along with feature pieces and advertisement breaks. This footage was also available as a live stream to the Show's website.
